SEL, the most competitive and dynamic company in the food sector (meat products) was established in 1980 in the city of Estremoz.
A small company with just three workers was little by little unable to satisfy the growing number of customers due to the high quality of the products presented. In the late 1980s Salsicharia Estremocense, Lda underwent profound changes and started to grow even more.
Until the mid-90s, SEL demonstrated that it had the necessary conditions to satisfy its customers, but the constant demand for its products forced the expansion and modernization of infrastructure and equipment. Today it has 3,500m² of covered area, more than 130 employees and is a leading brand in the traditional charcuterie segment.

SEL, as a company that is constantly innovating, decided to enter a market niche that is still little explored in Portugal and invest in the production of a new product – Ham.
With a lot of courage and determination the Varanegra Ham was born, a differentiated and 100% Portuguese product. To maintain «The Flavor of Alentejo Knowledge», VARANEGRA ham uses raw material from acorn-fed Black Pig, resulting in a juicier and tastier ham, with a more intense aroma. Its fat is rich in oleic acid and contains nutritious properties and promotes the reduction of cholesterol.

Currently SEL has one of the most modern facilities in the country, for the preparation and processing of Fresh and Frozen Black Pork and White Pork Meat and is also dedicated to the manufacture of Traditional Alentejo Charcuterie.
A few years ago, SEL also found a more convenient and economical way of getting products to consumers and made an investment in a slicing unit. The objective is to adapt to new market and consumer trends by presenting the product in various formats.
